Sir, With reference to letters published in the Tenby Observer on Friday, April 25, and Friday, May 2, 2014, regarding the Amroth Carnival donation to the Amroth and District Community Association. The whinging protagonists have now emerged and we would advise that this minority group have no credibility and are most certainly not the majority of the Carnival Group as they have claimed in the letter April 25, 2014. The leading figure Mr. Harbord was joint chairman of the Amroth Community Carnival Group and his wife Lianne was acting secretary. Both publicly resigned and walked out of one of the latter meetings in 2005 and were not involved in any subsequent discussions with regard to the carnival group. Jackie Pearce also resigned soon after and Ruth Rowland to our knowledge was never involved in any of the carnival organisation activities. We would advise that Amroth Carnival proved to be a huge success in the four years it ran, being funded by programme advertising revenue and subsequent sale of the carnival programme, this being largely organised by Roger Harries, the president of the group. Further funding was generated by way of donations on the carnival activity events, with the prestigious finalé events being generously sponsored by the owners of New Inn Caravan Park on each occasion, which was gratefully appreciated, adding to the overall success of the occasions. The carnival group made the decision in 2005 that a further carnival would not be realistic due to insurance legislation and health and safety issues with regard to the carnival floats. The group was thus disbanded and the carnival proceeds were banked by the treasurer pending a worthwhile community project to which the funds could be donated. The building of the community children's playground in Summerhill was deemed to be a suitable project to which the accumulated carnival funds could be discharged and the payment was agreed and fully supported by all of the carnival group members as listed below being a majority agreement of all active members at the time of disbanding in 2005. Roger Harries, president; Glyn James, chairman; William Thwaites, treasurer; Martin Morris, Keith Morris, Paula Rigby, Jane Harries and Janet James, all active officers and committee members until the carnival group was disbanded. As can readily be seen the legitimate protagonists are substantially outnumbered and have no authority to question or challenge the fully supported donated funding which has taken place. We trust this places the whole complaint fiasco into perspective.
Roger Harries, president, Glyn James, chairman, Amroth Community Carnival Group (now disbanded)
