Saundersfoot CP School held a very successful Walk to School event on Wednesday. Over 95 per cent of pupils walked to school, or used the park and walk facilities provided at the Regency Hall Car Park. This was an amazing turnout as before the promotion began, this percentage was only 20 per cent! Many thanks to Mrs. Sue Lewis from Pembrokeshire County Council for working with Mrs. Jayne Edwards, the deputy head and the chair of Saundersfoot Travel Plan Working Party, to help organise the event. Lenny the Leek made a special guest appearance - many thanks to him too. Thanks also to the local police and traffic officers for their presence at the event. Their support was very much appreciated. A special mention also for the school crossing patrol officers, Mrs. Wharton and Mr. Holmes for their assistance on Wednesday and every day! In addition, Mrs. Edwards would like to thank all pupils, parents and staff for their help and co- operation in making this event so successful. She said: "Walk to School Wednesday was held to promote walking to school to the children of Saundersfoot CP School and their families." The school is currently working on a Travel Plan (safe Routes to School) and the aims of the Travel Plan Working Party are: 1. To promote a healthier lifestyle by encouraging children and their families to walk on a regular basis. 2. To make Saundersfoot School and its immediate environment safer for all. 3. To reduce the volume of traffic around school. 4. To make walking or cycling a more viable option by improving the safety of routes to school. 5. To investigate ways of improving parking facilities around school.
