Tavernspite CP School pupils have swapped their pencils for plimsoles to raise money for charity and to get fit at the same time. More than 20 children are walking six miles next Sunday (April 29) to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and the PTA. "We wanted to raise money for a good cause and to get fit as well," said teacher and organiser Lyn Molyneaux. "Everyone has really got behind the idea and we are hoping to raise over £1,000." As well as the children's walk, 30 parents, grandparents and teachers are completing a half- marathon walk on the same day. "Originally, the event was intended as an adults- only walk, but so many pupils wanted to take part that we have also organised a shorter route for them," said headteacher Brian Jones. "We are a healthy school and it's been brilliant to see everyone in training for the big day."
