Sir,

Through your columns, the Rotary Club of Tenby wishes to thank all the adults and children who attended last Friday's Annual Charity Fireworks and Bonfire.

Despite the indifferent weather, which included some heavy rain, there was another large crowd at the Heywood Lane rugby ground.

Hopefully all those present enjoyed the evening to include the various entertainment and amusements. Unfortunately, as they had become rather wet, the fireworks were perhaps not quite as effective as at previous displays.

The reasons for holding the event are twofold. Firstly, it is put on as entertainment for our local community. Secondly, it is one of our yearly charity fund-raising events and in this regard it was again successful.

Tenby Rotary Club is very grateful for the support of all those who attended, especially the teenagers and families with young children who must have felt the cold well before the fireworks were set off.

Rotary also wish to thank other organisations which assisted, including sponsors Chevron, Ladies Circle, St. John Ambulance, the County Council, Dyfed-Powys Police and Tenby United RFC for use of the ground and building the bonfire etc.

For some time, Tenby Rotary Club has debated the pros and cons of whether the event should incorporate different types of entertainment, food and drink or if it should be simplified and shortened to just the fireworks and bonfire. The public's thoughts would be welcomed.

Together with other monies already raised, the net proceeds of last Friday's event will in due course all be allocated to various local, national and international charities.
