Three exhibitions on the future of the South Pembrokeshire coastline are being held in the county later this month as part of a larger public consultation along the South Wales coast.

A document called the 'Shoreline Management Plan' is being put together to plan the best way to manage the shoreline between Lavernock Point in the Vale of Glamorgan to St. Ann's Head

The plan is being compiled by the Swansea and Carmarthen Bay Engineering group which comprises a number of agencies including local authorities, the Welsh Assembly Government, the Countryside Council for Wales and Environment Agency Wales.

Pembrokeshire County Council's cabinet member for environmental and regulatory services, Clr. Ken Rowlands, said it was vital that the public had their say on the draft plan which can be seen at http://www.southwalescoast.org">www.southwalescoast.org

"Climate change and rising sea levels will continue to increase the risk of flooding and erosion to the coast, affecting the places where people live, work and play," he explained.

"Despite many studies there remains considerable uncertainty over the scale, impact and timing of future climate change. The way in which defences and the coast is managed in future will therefore need to change which is why draft Shoreline Management Plan is being drawn up."

Public consultation on the plan will be undertaken between September 6 and December 6 and starts with a series of public exhibitions across South Wales.

The three Pembrokeshire public exhibitions - all between 12 noon and 8 pm - will be held on: Wednesday, September 15, at the De Valence, Upper Frog Street, Tenby; Thursday, September 16, at Pembroke Town Hall; and on Friday, September 17, in the Murray Suite at Milford Haven Town Hall.

The draft plan can be viewed on the website at libraries in Tenby, Saundersfoot, Pembroke and Pembroke Dock and at the Council's Customer Contact Centre in Pembroke Dock.
