Public seating in many parts of Tenby needs revamping, according to a local councillor.
Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas said that some of the resort’s gardens contained ‘unused seating’ that was in very good condition, whilst other more used gardens had seating that was in a ‘terrible’ condition.
“As it’s a quiet time of the year, I was wondering whether it would be worthwhile to look at if we can or cannot move some of this seating around,” she said.
Clr. Mrs. Thomas also said that the benches along the South Parade had come in for some criticism as they were constantly covered in pigeon mess.
“Apparently, I’m told that early in the morning, a person scatters seeds along this area, encouraging the pigeons, and even rats as well!
“This is surely classed as littering! We have so many complaints about the seats in that area, from people who would like to sit there, but can’t, so can we do something to discourage the pigeon mess,” she continued, with Clr. Will Rossiter commenting that the seats in that area weren’t particularly comfortable either.
The Mayor, Clr. Laurence Blackhall, said that he had raised the matter of street furniture in Tenby a few weeks ago and that Tenby Civic Society were kindly carrying out a survey, which he hoped the town council could consult on with them and Pembrokeshire County Council.
He also told his colleagues that plenty of people had told him how nice the South Parade area looked since the tree-cutting works had taken place.
“There is light and room, and we can now see our stunning town walls, so congratulations to those who carried out the work,” he added.
