The preferred developer of Pembroke Quay is offering to meet members of the public to hear what they would like built on the site. Allied Land Limited - selected by both Pembrokeshire County Council and the Welsh Assembly Government as the preferred developer of the site - has volunteered to meet all members of the public who want to say what they would like to see built. Steven Rogers, of Allied Land, said that he was genuinely anxious to hear what the local ambitions were for the site and if there were ideas that he could incorporate he would ensure they were looked at seriously. But he warned: "I cannot promise to please everyone. I have to remain realistic and build something that is, in the end, marketable. "However, my ambition is to build something that is worthy of this special site and that will have a positive and much needed improvement to the town." For that reason, he explained, he was working with local architects practice, Pembroke Design, a company sensitive to the issues and local feelings about the site. They were also capable, he said, of coming up with a design solution that would find favour with Cadw, the Design Commission for Wales and Pembrokeshire County Council. Given the difficulty of the site and current market conditions, Mr. Rogers emphasised that a planning application was still some way off - probably in January 2009. He added that his company had a commitment to Pembrokeshire and a track record citing their work with the Milford Haven Port Authority at Milford Marina as an example of the scale and quality of development they were able to deliver. Gareth Scourfield, of Pembroke Design Limited, added that he was delighted to have the chance to work on such a locally important site that he had known well all his life. He stated that the design principles set out by Pembrokeshire County Council were a clear starting point and he hoped that in this first consultation exercise people would look at these and comment in similar terms on what were their ambitions for the development. Dr. Steven Jones, director of development for Pembrokeshire County Council, said that everyone was aware of the strength of feeling about getting such a development right and that he thought Allied Land were well placed to deliver a very appropriate and high quality solution. He confirmed that officers of the council would also be in attendance during the consultation. The public can visit Pembroke Town Hall to meet the development team on Tuesday, March 4, from 2 to 8 pm and on Wednesday, March 5, from 10 am to 7 pm.
