It's being hailed as the greatest pub quiz ever, where the winner will take home a rather unique prize before last orders - the actual pub itself!
Steve and Christie Goymer, who own and run The Plash Inn situated on the Carmarthenshire/Pembrokeshire border, close to the River Taf, in the small village of Llanfallteg, near Whitland, are offering the chance for anyone to enter a competition to win the pub.
The couple took the decision to give up the beautiful country pub which has been a part of village life in Llanfallteg for around 150 years, when their second son, Ioan, born in June 2007, was diagnosed with Downs Syndrome after many stressful days in the Special Care Baby Unit.
"This came as a huge shock to the family and diverted our attention away from the pub. With many hospital appointments required and more and more treatments needed, we realised that this was not going to be easy," explained Steve and Christie, who originally come from Nuneaton, and moved to the area with their first son, Rhys, who is now six years old, and Steve's parents, Jennifer and Jim, back in August of 2004, as they wanted a better life for all the family in the countryside.
"Now, 20 months on, we were right, our children are growing up, as all children do, but, with disability in the equation, it is very hard. Something had to give," said Christie.
"So, in April 2008, we decided it was time to put our priorities in order and we reluctantly put the pub on the market.
"After seven months with some interest, but no sale, we decided to explore other avenues, and now after much deliberation, we've decided to sell the pub by form of competition," she continued.
The Plash Inn has been a regular in the 'Good Beer Guide' serving excellent real ales from all over the UK, along with good quality wines and spirits, as well as a variety of home-cooked dishes in the 12-seater restaurant.
The bar focal piece is the corner 'outfitters' bar with open fireplace, which provides a warm welcome on those wintry days, while a well-maintained beer garden is an ideal sun-trap, hosting regular garden parties and barbecues in the summer, with plenty of entertainment, well appreciated by the regulars and new faces that frequent the pub.
With the website now up and running at http://www.winapubinwales.co.uk">www.winapubinwales.co.uk, one lucky person can win the lifestyle that the Goymers have enjoyed and a business for a mere £20, mortgage free!
There's no catch and the chances of winning are greater than the Lottery, as only 30,000 tickets will be sold before the competition is closed. The winner will receive The Plash Inn and Brewery Cottage next door, along with all the business fixtures and fittings.
The competition on the website will ask participants to answer four multiple choice questions correctly and fill in the tie-break.
"We have thoroughly enjoyed our time running the pub as a family business and with the welcoming locals and the community spirit, who could resist it?" added Steve and Christie.
