During 2003, over 60 organisations and individuals, mainly from throughout Pembrokeshire, have received financial support in the region of £7,500 from Milford Haven Port Authority.
The recipients were wide ranging - various school projects, local community associations, and Scout and Guide units, to name but a few. Also benefiting were a number of junior sporting organisations, mostly from rugby and soccer codes.
Deputy harbourmaster Bill Hirst, who is chairman of the Port Authority's Community Support Committee, commented: "We are pleased to be in a position to assist local organisations and, occasionally, individuals. Rather than give large sums, we try and support a number of organisations, although each application is treated on its merit. The committee is unique in that it consists of a cross-section of staff, some of whom have knowledge of the different organisations submitting applications."
Bill Hirst concluded: "We will be maintaining our support throughout 2004 and look forward to receiving applications from organisations and individuals."
