Hard-working WRVS volunteers from Withybush Hospital's tea bar have presented a cheque for £20,000 to Pembrokeshire and Derwen NHS Trust. The latest donation brings the total raised by the Pembrokeshire WRVS group to nearly £370,000 since its inception in 1978. The money is used for equipment to improve the quality of care for Pembrokeshire patients and, this time, will fund a new sensory projector for the radiology department, help to upgrade the relative's room and provide additional bench seating across the hospital site. Speaking at a special ceremony to thank the 35 local volunteers, Pembrokeshire and Derwen NHS Trust acting chief executive, Mrs. Caroline Oakley, said: "WRVS volunteers play an important role and make a very real difference to the quality of patient care in this county. They bridge the gap with local people and engender a community spirit which helps nurses and clinicians to do their job more effectively. Trust staff notice and appreciate this effort." Trust chairman Mrs. Lynette George added: "This is a significant sum of money and a huge achievement for the WRVS, who give help and support in so many different ways. The Trust would like to thank them for their continuous efforts." At the ceremony, WRVS project manager for Pembrokeshire, Joyce Hunt, area project manager, Angela Perrin, and vice-chairman's committee member, Jen Watkins, presented awards to local volunteers. Certificates for 10 years of service were awarded to Beryl Marsh, Jill Pulley, Millie Morgans, Iris Tansey, Brenda Volck, Betty Devonald, Pamela Watton, Jean Wheatley and Daphne Morgan. Medals for 15 years service were also presented to Mary Davies, Melba Codd, Barbara Summons, Enid Vaughan and Phil Craig. Said Mrs Hunt: "I would like to thank all current volunteers for their loyal service over so many years and to offer an invitation to new volunteers to join us."
