Local artist (and hotelier) Alan Rees-Baynes, of Elm Grove Country House, St. Florence, has recently been shortlisted for Wales’ only large scale contemporary international painting competition - the biennial BEEP International Painting Prize.

Artists from around the world have been selected for the shortlist, 16 of them from Wales and one very proud one from Pembrokeshire.

The competition was judged by acclaimed painter Shani Rhys James and respected curator Jonathan Watkins.

Alan said “I was delighted to be shortlisted for this highly regarded competition, and look forward to seeing my work touring the country in Swansea, Wrexham and Cardiff over the rest of this year.”

The two pieces selected were from Alan’s ‘test card’ range of works done in just six shades and inspired by the name of the paint themselves - Amazon Jungle and Nomadic Glow.

The full show can be seen at the Swansea College of Art until the September 3, when the show will move onto Wrexham.
