June is usually the month for picnics and strawberries. So pack up your picnic along with a bottle of wine, or better still champagne, and come along on the evening of Saturday, June 8, to the Open Air Jubilee Proms in the Park.
Enjoy a programme of popular classics performed by the Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra, which will include the traditional Proms finale 'The 1812 Overture' enhanced that evening by a spectacular fireworks display.
Limited seating will be available for hire or you can bring your own chair; also a warm blanket for your legs should the weather cool at the end of the evening. There will be alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, tea and coffee for sale.
This is the second year that the Proms have been organised by the Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism with the generous support of Texaco and it will be a fitting climax to a week of festivities and events to be held in Saundersfoot for the Queen's Golden Jubilee.
On the evening of the Proms, the Chamber for Tourism will have for sale 'Saundersfoot's very own calendar for 2003'. With outstanding views of the village and local countryside that have been captured by the camera of local amateur photographer, Doug Williams, it is a must to buy for residents and visitors alike.
As with the Millennium celebrations, Saundersfoot is again taking part in the chain of beacons that will be lit around Britain on the evening of the Jubilee, June 3. The last beacon to be lit will be by the Queen at Buckingham Palace at 11 pm.
To commemorate the Jubilee, Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism are presenting to the village a beacon which will be placed in the grounds of St. Brides Hotel. This will be lit at our designated time of 9.45 pm during the open-air dance on the harbour to live music from Dai the Boot and Wayne's Disco.
A full list of the events for all ages, aimed at villagers and visitors alike, which are being held throughout the week from June 1, can be found in a programme now out in all businesses in Saundersfoot and also at the Tourist Information Office.
The Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism would like to thank: Texaco; Mr. Phil Thompson of Texaco; The Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra; Saundersfoot Sports and Social Club; the Harbour Commissioners; and everyone else, too numerous to mention, who has helped or organised the events throughout the week of June 1 to June 8, for the community of Saundersfoot's Jubilee festivities.
