An evening of high energy, stomping sound comes to the Queen’s Hall on Friday, April 15, with the arrival of eight-piece progressive folk rock band Amazonne.

Making their first full appearance with a new line-up, the band’s unique sound is instantly recognisable. Lyrical, memorable vocals, virtuoso keyboards, fiddles, lead and bass guitar, mandolins, drums and percussion, plus four-piece harmonies, ensure a full-on mix of well-crafted songs that will have you jumping up and down throughout.

With its followers ranging from fans of Steeleye Span to Nightwish and Opeth, the band’s music has wide appeal combining folk rock with world music, classical and metal influences.

Amazonne are Perryn Butler, Gaynor Colbourn, Mike Forwood, Holly Robinson,Tom Bryant and Oliver Fecci-Chiffi with backing singers Louise Hales and Chris Flowers.

Lead singer Perryn Butler has performed all over the British Isles with bands and as a solo artist. She started out on the traditional folk scene before moving onto the popular music circuit. She lives in Pembrokeshire and combines music with a career as an artist and sculptor.

She is half of the writing duo Butler-Colbourn who, as well as being behind a number of albums and songs, have written and produced two musicals, including Fire, based on the story of the Fire of London, which premieres at Theatr Mwldan, Cardigan, in May.

Keyboard wizard Gaynor Colbourn is a composer and session musician. A classically trained pianist, she first hit the road with heavy rock band Fusion, before turning to composition and session work. She has played on many famous tracks, and wrote the theme music for the 1981 Ronnie Corbett TV show Sorry among others.

Violinist Holly Robinson has played with many bands and orchestras over the years. In addition to being a member of Amazonne, she has an interest in traditional music and currently plays with three Pembrokeshire folk bands.

Drummer Tom Bryant is a familiar face on the local music scene, having performed at venues across the county, while Oliver Fecci-Chiffi is a rising local star on guitar. Bass player Mike Forwood has signifiant experience, having played in many bands over the years and working as a sound and outside broadcast engineer.

Backing singers Chris Flowers and Louise Hales each regularly perform at venues across west Wales, both as soloists and in local productions. They both have leading roles in Fire which can be seen in Cardigan in May.

Expect an evening of high energy music, terrific musicianship, fabulous songs and banging sounds.

Support on the night comes from singer Rosey Cale and MC Dan Cashgroove Morgan.
