The Plastic Free Tenby group held another productive meeting this week looking at what has been achieved so far.
There was discussion about how to get more bins all year round on beaches and introducing ‘quick beach clean boards’ with the help of Pembrokeshire County Council.
The group decided that the regular monthly meetings would act as the ‘Steering Group’ for now with individuals taking on different tasks and working together.
Members are working on their own and as small teams looking at all aspects of the initiative and the purpose of the steering group will be to coordinate, facilitate and encourage all this positive energy.
Examples of activities are examining what is actually recycled from orange bags and what is transferred to landfill, as well as swapping plastics for other materials, members have been looking at how to help businesses make the switch to plastic-free alternatives and others are looking at how to improve information about recycling.
Speaking this week, Gary Tapley from Plastic Free Tenby said: “It is tremendous to have so many people engaged. We want to maintain that involvement and encourage even more people to join in.
So far, over 800 people have joined the campaign’s Facebook page.
The next meeting will be held at Church House at 5 pm on Wednesday, June 6.
