Sir,
Yet again last week a letter was published complaining about the amount of dog excrement on our streets and pathways. As a regular twice-a- day dog walker, I have to agree that this is a problem that seems to be escalating. There are many dog walkers who conscientiously clear up their dog's excrement, bag it and deposit it in a bin. Unfortunately, however, there are others who don't. Not only do they give other dog owners a bad name, but also they seem to totally ignore the health risks that dog excrement can cause. On a daily basis walkers have to dodge the excrement left on the ramp leading from The Esplanade down to South Beach. This is unacceptable as there is a bin at the bottom of the ramp and one near the top. If you're thinking that you walked down this ramp and did't see any offending items, it could be because I had cleared it up. I removed four different piles on one occasion this week. I regularly carry extra bags with me, as my walk is spoilt if I have to keep checking to see where it is safe to place my feet. I have written to Pembrokeshire County Council to ask if bins/warning signs can be posted in this and other areas where dog fouling is a problem. We live in a beautiful part of the British Isles and are envied by the many visitors who enjoy coming to Tenby. We have a duty to ensure that we all take responsibility for preserving our environment and our reputation.
