Welsh Assembly Government minister Andrew Davies and local AM Christine Gwyther were in Tenby yesterday (Thursday) to officially open the resort's new National Park Interpretation Centre. Located in a prime spot at the premises of the former Job Centre, directly opposite the Five Arches in South Parade, the centre has been open to the public since Monday, July 3. Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, which also operates centres at St. Davids and Newport, has long been looking for a suitable building in Tenby and believe that the premises are ideal for its new role. The newly fitted out centre features interpretation on the Park using a mix of displays, interactives and audio visuals. At the centre's opening, Park chairman, Clr. Simon Hancock, said: "It's been a long term aim for this authority to establish a presence in Tenby to go alongside the centres in St. Davids and Newport. "We hope that this new facility opposite the iconic Five Arches of the town will enhance visitors' experience. " Andrew Davies, Welsh Assembly Government Minister for Enterprise, Innovation and Networks, said that it was always a pleasure to visit the area where he had spent many a holiday as a child. "Tenby is often regarded as the jewel in the crown of Wales and that is something to be proud of and promoted through the tourism industry," he remarked. "There is something special about the coastal areas of Pembrokeshire, along with the beautiful countryside and fantastic hotels. "We may not be able to compete with the cost of holidaying in somewhere like Spain, but we can certainly compete with the quality of experience. Facilities like this centre are absolutely vital in benefiting tourism in Wales," he added. The opening hours of the new centre are 9.30 am to 5 pm and the telephone number is 01834 845040.
