Volunteer staff and cadets of TS Tenby mustered at their unit on Tenby Harbour last week, to receive prestigious awards from Lt Cdr Keith Peachey RNR Rtd.
The unit commanding officer, Lt (SCC) Roy Broxham RNR, together with PO (SCC) Tina Clements RNR, PO (SCC) Peter Shearwood RNR and PO (SCC) John Blair RNR were each awarded medals, commemorating the Queen's Golden Jubilee marking the 60th anniversary of the accession to the throne of Queen Elizabeth II.
The medal, designed by Timothy Noad, is awarded to people who have been working in a number of front line public service jobs for five full calendar years on February 6, 2012.
In addition, OC Richards accepted the 'Unit Efficiency Pennant' for 2012 from Lt Cdr Keith Peachey RNR Rtd, which is a highly regarded recognition of the high standards of training and opportunities provided by the unit for local youths.
This summer will see four cadets from Tenby enjoying adventure aboard the Sea Cadets Brig, TS Royalist. Two joining the vessel at Brest, then passage to Cherbourg, where they will disembark, replaced by the remaining two cadets who will then sail to home waters at Dartmouth.
The vessel was part of the Jubilee flotilla last weekend on the River Thames, along with 55 of the Sea Cadets' Trinity 500 boats, which sailed along the Thames in a diamond formation. The unit at Tenby has two of these vessels, which cadets will enjoy during evenings during coming weeks and train for future competitions.
Today, is one of the unit's 'Flag' days, and will see Cadets in uniform collecting charitable donations in the Tenby area, so please support them.
The unit on Tenby Harbour provides an interesting and varied series of activities for girls and boys, from 10-years-old as juniors and 12-years-old as senior cadets, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings throughout the year between 7 and 9 pm.
So, if you're out to enjoy life and consider becoming a cadet for fun, friendship and adventure whilst learning new skills, or helping as a volunteer, come along or telephone the unit on 01834 849641. Alternatively, why not look up the Sea Cadets on the web at http://www.sea-cadets.org">www.sea-cadets.org where the adventures begin.
