At the half-time interval of the Division One West league match between Narberth and Dunvant, the Otters' 18-year-old flanker Lloyd Phillips received a standing ovation from supporters to recognise his achievement on being selected for the Welsh under 19 squad, for the second successive season.
A photograph was taken (by Patrick Jones), which will be framed and presented to Lloyd at a later date. Last season, Lloyd's appearances for the Welsh team were restricted because of injury. In the first international match last Friday at Stradey Park, Llanelli, he started and finished the match against Ireland, which Wales won 31-9. He hopes to be selected for the match against France this weekend and the fixture against England the following weekend. After the England match, the players will have a month off preparing for the Under 19 Rugby World Cup, which will be held in Belfast during April. Lloyd Phillips made his first team debut for Narberth this season and has not looked back, with a string of top quality performances. Unfortunately for Otters supporters, the away match at Merthyr a fortnight ago was his last appearance for the Otters this season.
