At the beginning of the Sung Eucharist service at St. Mary's Church, Tenby, on Sunday, a devoted and respected member of the church choir was bade a fond farewell. Jack Docherty and his wife, Anne, will soon be leaving our seaside town and heading east, to Bridgend. Jack's enormous contribution to music at St. Mary's was spoken about with admiration and pleasure by director of music, Dr. John Harrison. He talked of Jack's professionalism, dedication and sense of humour. Unknown to most of the congregation, Jack has been the holder of both a British and American pilot's licence and has always been a true 'high flyer'. A gift to mark the high esteem in which Jack is held was presented from the choir by Dr. John. The congregation were told about the various musical groups with which Jack has been associated during his life in Pembrokeshire. As a major contributor to musical activities, Jack has been a member of the Dyfed Choir, St. David's Festival Chorus, Stagestruck Theatre Company, Griffon Choir and Welsh National Opera Community Choir. All of these groups will now be lamenting the loss of an extremely valuable and talented tenor. Dr. John expressed the very best wishes of all the choir and wider congregation, in the hope that the years ahead will be filled with happiness and good health for both Jack and Anne in their new home.
