Two casualties were plucked from the sea by an RAF helicopter in the early hours of Monday morning after their vessel capsized off Pendine Sands, near Ginst Point.

The alarm was raised at 5.15 am by an electronic positioning indicator beacon on board the 20-foot vessel and Milford Haven Coastguard sprung into action to co-ordinate the rescue of the stranded pair.

Tenby's all-weather lifeboat, the RFA Sir Galahad, together with the town's coastguard team and a helicopter from RAF Chivenor were tasked to the scene.

The two crew members of the capsized boat, who were from Llanelli, were found clinging to the hull of the vessel and were recovered by the helicopter and flown to Morriston Hospital, Swansea. Meanwhile, the skill of Tenby lifeboat crew enabled the recovery of this small fishing vessel, Emma Louise.

Bob James, Tenby lifeboat press officer, said: "The lifeboat righted the vessel. The volunteer crew pumped it out and towed it back to Tenby. "The two casualties were cold and wet, but otherwise should be fine."

The casualties were later released from hospital.
