I wanted to write in to offer praise and a big thank you to Bernie and Trish George and their happy band of volunteers who raise funds for the Withybush Hospital Cancer Day Unit Appeal.

They have a charity shop at Riverside, Victoria Place, Haverfordwest, which is open on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. They are a registered charity and have recently celebrated their fifth birthday since opening the fundraising shop in Haverfordwest.

They lead a group of people who have come together to support cancer patients as best they can. They have already raised significant funds in this short time which are being used to purchase equipment within the cancer day unit, over and above what the local health board is able to provide.

The charity's aim is to invest in improved facilities and equipment needed by the team of clinicians and nurses at Withybush Hospital who provide invaluable support and health care to cancer patients here in Pembrokeshire, therefore allowing patients to live at home whilst they undergo essential treatments.

Substantial amounts have been raised through the shop and fundraising events throughout the county and beyond.

Every community and good cause needs dedicated people who can 'make a difference' and Bernie and Trish certainly fit the bill.
