Two gardeners from Colby Woodland Garden, Amroth, have been thanked and praised after going to the aid of a rider and her horse on Friday morning. Kate Harrison, of Skerry Back, Summerhill, was riding her nine-year-old cob mare along the new bridlepath above the Colby estate when the horse's foot got stuck in the fork of a fallen branch. Kate had ridden along the bridlepath before and seen the branch, but on this occasion, her horse misjudged walking over it and her foot slipped and became wedged in it. Kate managed to jump off, but the mare, named Martletwy Lucky Lady, was unable to get her leg free. "I shouted and shouted for help for ages before I heard voices," said Kate, who also had her dog Spot with her. "Steve and Dave, who work at Colby, heard me and came to my aid. Dave then went back to get saws and together they managed to saw through the branch and free Lucky Lady's leg. It took them around half-an-hour and she had to stand very still while they cut her out. "I was worried that if Lucky Lady had started to struggle herself she would have broken her leg or pulled off her hoof, both of which could have proved fatal, but we all kept calm and thankfully there was a happy ending. Steve and Dave were wonderful and I cannot thank them enough for their help. "Martletwy Lucky Lady certainly lived up to her name!"
