Due to Garnant Park golf course being waterlogged, the Beynons and Trefloyne came to Kilgetty Golf Society's rescue last Wednesday, January 12, and enabled them to complete their monthly tournament. Many thanks must be extended to them for this gesture. The change of venue certainly proved profitable for Pat 'Postie' Casement, who was the main benefactor on the day. The new Deep Red driver- a Christmas present - certainly added a new dimension to his game. Thank you son-in-law, he was heard to say! Once again a good turnout for all the hard work done by 'Woody' to organise the Kilgetty Golf Society January 2005 Stableford tournament. This was the first in the new year and an encouraging 25 golfers participated. Carmarthen next. We could have more. Teeing-off at 10 am were Windsor 'The Duke' Royal, Wyn 'Gasoline' Hopkins and last month's winner, John 'Sniffer' James. An unexpectedly poor round from these accomplished golfers. Next to go out were Trevor 'Santa' Lewis, Graham 'Atkins' Harrison (both of TGC) and Barry 'Chippy' Wood. A quiet and uneventful round ensued. Terry 'Hippo' Harvey, Len 'Corrie' Fairclough and Gary 'Baldi' Hopkins started their round badly, but steady play saw them emerge to the front of the pack. The next three comprised of Phil 'Sheepskin' Rugg, Steve 'Squirty' Scanlon and Gareth 'Gateau' Phillips. Must have been too many at New Year for them, as they returned empty-handed. Tenby stalwarts Derek 'Bubble' Bath and Jim 'The Pipes' Hinchliffe, along with Keith 'Luke' Warmington took to the fairways in hot pursuit of the opposition. Unfortunately, after a few holes, their chances melted away! The next three of Lee 'Larnie' Lewis off eight, 'Saint' Bernard Bradley (new to KGS) and Pat 'Postie' Casement stormed around the course, with Pat being the pick of them. Daryl 'Rods' Jones, Tom 'Evergreen' Pritchard and Mark 'Woody' Wood eased their way off the tee and had an acceptable round, with 'Woody' hitting some massive drives that 'Tiger' would have been proud of. Finally, the only fourball of the day comprised Ian 'The Gas' Thomas, Roy 'Grumpy' Good, Kim 'Karts' Harland and Ken 'Drains' Badham. This quarter produced two prize winners and played with their usual aplomb. After showers etc., we sat down to a very tasty bowl of soup and crusty rolls provided at very short notice by our hosts. Following refreshments, the presentations were made. 'Chippy' wished everyone happy new year and thanked Trefloyne for hosting us at such short notice. He then called on Trevor 'Santa' Lewis - as a founder member - to present the prizes as follows: 1. Pat 'Postie' Casement 35 pts.; 2. Roy 'Grumpy' Good 34 (this gave him something to smile about); 3. Mark 'Woody' Wood 33, having more points on back nine holes; wooden spoon - Wyn 'Gasoline' Hopkins (we hear his wife wants a full set); OAP - Roy 'Grumpy' Good (almost cracked his face); Over 20 handicap - Pat 'Postie' Casement; Nearest pin - Kim 'Karts' Harland; Longest drive - Gary 'Baldi' Hopkins (good practice for next week); Team - joint 1. 'Postie', 'Larnie' and 'Saint' with 'Hippo', 'Corrie' and 'Baldi' (both teams with 90 points). Many thanks to all the players. Please note the next date is Wednesday, February 9, at Carmarthen. Please let 'Woody' know your availability as soon as possible. B.J.A.W.
