Intrepid adventurer Rosie Swale was well on the way to completing another of her remarkable challenges, she revealed this week

Rosie, well-known for her gruelling 1,000-mile solo run across Iceland, left her Tenby home last month to run around the perimeter of a proposed mountain Peace Park in the Balkans, taking in parts of Kosovo, Montenegro and northern Albania, but still managed to find time to drop the Observer a postcard this week.

The Peace Park has been the dream of Professor Nigel Young, Director of Peace Studies at Colgate University, New York, for a number of years and seeks to expand on an already established area, the Theth Forest Park set up by Petrit Imeraj and Blendi Dibra in the Albanian Alps.

Rosie has also sailed single-handedly across the Atlantic, pony-trekked through South America and has run in many marathons around the world, including the Sahara and South Africa. And, in her postcard, she revealed she was almost two-thirds of the way to finishing her latest adventure.

"Have run about 500 miles and have had many adventures," she wrote.

In the postcard, posted in Shkoder on April 26, Rosie explained that she had successfully run through Kosovo and Montenegro and was now on her way through Albania.

She last visited the country eight years ago and wants to spend some time on the trip searching for some of the families she met then.

Also by running as her sole means of transport and carrying all her equipment, she also hopes to raise sponsorship in aid of the people of the Balkans.

"For me, running is the best was to break down barriers," Rosie told the Observer prior to leaving Tenby on April 10.

She said that some of the most fantastic people you meet and the greatest experiences are encountered not when you reach anywhere in particular, but all along the way, around every corner, and it seems that this latest adventure is no different.

"Have seen incredible snow drifts, wolves and bears - tell you all about it when I get home."

"Thinking of everyone in beautiful Tenby," she concluded.

Rosie hopes to complete her challenge by the middle of this month.
