Since we published a story a couple of weeks ago highlighting anti-social behaviour and dog fouling problems at Narberth Castle, a number of local people have come forward and offered their services as castle wardens for a hour or two each week. "In my capacity as county councillor, I will be putting the idea forward to the town council that we administer a warden scheme," said Clr. Wynne Evans, who will be looking for more volunteers. "I had a very postitive meeting with Sergeant King at Narberth police station last week, and he has organised extensive patrols of the castle," he explained. "There have been no problems reported and I am very grateful to him and his fellow officers. Regular patrols will now take place in the evenings, to combat anti-social behaviour at the castle and to give reassurance to people living near by," he pointed out. "The castle will be the setting for many organised events this year, especially ones organised by Span, with Shakespearian travelling companies staging shows, and operatic events." Added Clr. Evans: "I would like to say thankyou to Yve Armstrong and the Mayor, Clr. David Norcross, for their efforts in keeping the castle clean and tidy. "The castle is there for everyone to enjoy, and I am pleased the local school and museum are making such good use of this wonderful monument. "I would appeal to all dog owners to respect these surroundings and please remove dog fouling."
