A meeting held recently to look into potential plans for Tenby Harbour and future use of the sluice was "very positive," a local councillor said this week.
Speaking at Tuesday night's meeting of the town council, Clr. Lawrence Blackhall said that the meeting was very well attended, with harbour users, from both work and pleasure sides, forming the discussions.
"It was a good discussion about work that is being carried out as part of the enhancement scheme and a lot of positive ideas on future priorities," he said.
"There was a talk of how the sluice could be better utilised, a look at low water landing and storage issues, and also European funding possibilities, with the potential for a larger project that would make further improvements to the area, whilst preserving the integrity of the harbour and its surroundings," continued Clr. Blackhall.
Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown welcomed the fact that the meeting had taken place and said that it was good to see the town council being proactive with their involvement in organising such a meeting.
Clr. Mrs. Trisha Putwain, who attended as secretary of the Sea Cadets organisation, said she would have preferred the meeting to have been totally open to the public and anyone who wanted to attend, and not just invited bodies
FOOTNOTE: The town clerk, Mr. Andrew Davies, told members that he had consulted Pembrokeshire's monitoring officer on a recent issue whereby Clr. Mrs. Putwain had asked for a resolution made during the town council's July 23 meeting in relation to Tenby Harbour sluice to be rescinded, as she pointed out that the issue had already been resolved back in May.
Mr. Davies explained that the monitoring officer had advised that as new information had come to light, councillors' discussions in July on matters concerning the sluice didn't negate their decision in May, and any resolution need not have been rescinded.
