Work is well underway to cover an area the size of 30 football fields with 20,000 solar panels and install more than 50 miles of wiring on fields above the town of Milford Haven, at Liddeston Ridge.
A short film showing the innovative low noise installation techniques being used by the contractors drilling nearly 6,000 ground screws into the earth has been posted on the Port of Milford Haven's website. Also displayed is timelapse footage showing the building of an intricate framework of supports which, if unfolded, would stretch 30 miles.
Creating minimal environmental impact and where practicable enhancing the environment around the site is a key part of the project's aims, according to the man leading the project team, Tim James.
"We are creating new wildlife habitats with meadow grasses and flowers attracting insects, birds and animals," he said.
"In 25 years time, when the project reaches the end of its consent, every single part of this site can be removed by simply reversing the process. The fields can be restored to their former state and every component recycled. That is central to the environmental credibility of this project", he added.
When connected up to the National Grid early next year, the site will generate 5,000 megawatt hours of energy, enough to power a thousand homes.
