Members of Neyland Youth Forum have been getting to grips with nature after securing funding to purchase equipment for an environmental project. The organisation applied to the Port of Milford Haven for a range of gardening tools, including spades, rakes, gloves and trowels, in order for a group of youth club members to complete the John Muir Award, which is an accredited project based on coastal, woodland and community gardens.
Over the course of a week, the group worked on removing overgrown shrubs and brambles on a disused path in Railway Terrace.
Community youth workers Sarah King and Donna Young were delighted with the progress made during the week, and said: "We've only been able to clear about a quarter of the path, but we intend to come back in the autumn to continue. Over the coming months we will be making contact with other community youth groups in Neyland to ask if they can give a day of their time to continue clearing the pathway."
Corporate affairs director at the Port of Milford Haven, Mark Andrews, praised the youngsters on their hard work, commenting: "The members of Neyland Youth Forum have done an excellent job tidying up an area that was identified by local residents as needing work. It's great to see them taking pride in their town and learning about the importance of caring for the environment."
As a trust port, the Port of Milford Haven is committed to reinvesting its profits for the benefit of the community and to preserve the Port and its surroundings for future generations.
