Given the scandals of Pembrokeshire County Council's Porsche and pay-offs and Carmarthenshire County Council's proposed £446,000 severance package, local Assembly Member Angela Burns has asked questions of the Minister for Public Services, Leighton Andrews, in the Senedd.
Ms. Burns said: "I am incensed that the Labour Government is only now proposing tighter controls on the remuneration of chief executives and other chief officers. This is like shutting the door after the horse has bolted.
"The Welsh Conservatives recommended an amendment to the 2013 Local Democracy (Wales) Bill which would have protected the taxpayer from this malfeasance, but were voted down by Labour, Plaid and Liberal Democrat AMs.
"I am furious to see the huge amounts of money being paid out to senior staff at our councils which is wholly wrong and unfair to the tax payer and community considering the future cuts to services that our councils are suggesting."
