Sir,
On behalf of the Royal British Legion, I would like to say a big thank you to all those members of the public who collected donations and those who made donations for the Poppy Appeal in the Saundersfoot, Pentlepoir, Kilgetty, Begelly, Amroth, Llanteg and Stepaside areas.
Firstly, the volunteers who did the house to house collections. These very kind people go out in all weathers to collect from the houses on their allocated route.
Some have willingly helped for a few years and others have done so for a few more. For example, Rosemary Hayes and Ann Parcell have now done it for 35 years!
A list of amounts collected is set out below and in random order - S. John £68, D. Poole £59, P. Baker £26, H. Stephens £58, R. Hayes £128, D. Lewis £154, M. Lawrence £37, T. Owen £66, A.Parcell £66, M. Harrison £55, G. Butler £70, A. Morris £48, T. George £143, K. Dolman £62 , J and T. Pearson £83, L. Price £54, M. Anderson £92, G. and M. Cavell £75, E. Hall £195, M. Jenkins £53, M. Hockenhull, £56, A. Brinsden £248, M. Brinsden £188, R. Morgan £64, M. Cleevely £52, D. Havard £141, J. Griffiths £32, S. Rees £88, R. Murphy £51.
Congratulations must go to those volunteers who managed to collect £100 and over, particularly the Llanteg duo. I wonder what their secret is?
Secondly, a big thank you to the shops, pubs and other places who permitted a Poppy Appeal collection box to be sited on their premises. Pentlepoir Post Office excelled with a massive £172.
Thirdly, I am very grateful indeed to the five community councillors who helped with the distribution and collection of trays, boxes and wreaths, and to those independent, responsible persons who carried out the counting.
I am always looking for new volunteers to help with house to house collections and if anyone is interested, please give me a call on 01834 813388.
We all know that the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal is a very worthy cause and to devote a few hours each November is not a lot to give.
Jeff Pearson,
Honorary Poppy
Appeal Organiser,
Saundersfoot Area.
