A 'pop-up film festival', which is scheduled to take place in Tenby next month, has been hailed as a potentially "wonderful project" by local councillors.

Organisers of Films4Tenby, who regularly screen films at the town's Fourcroft Hotel, wrote to the town council to inform them of a planned weekend of film screenings taking place between March 15 and 17 at various 'unusual and quirky locations' around Tenby, which would be transformed into cinema spaces.

The festival is set to feature such films as The Shining, The Jazz Singer, Shakespeare In Love, and The Edge of Love, parts of which were filmed on location in Tenby.

Councillors received news of the event at their meeting on Tuesday night, as the organisers had enquired as to whether the town council would be able to assist with any funding towards the public liabilities insurance to cover the weekend.

Clr. Mrs. Trisha Putwain was unsure if the council should provide any funding as the information from the organisers was "incredibly vague" about when it was taking place, and it wasn't made clear whether the event was a profit-making venture.

Her colleague, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown, disagreed and felt the event could be brilliant for Tenby.

"I know how much effort goes into an event like this, and the organisers are doing really well in running the film clubs monthly," she said.

"I think we should support them, this could really take-off and be another bonus for events held in Tenby," added Clr. Mrs. Brown, with Clr. Lawrence Blackhall agreeing, saying that it was a "fantastic" idea that could potentially see the town stage various types of festivals throughout the year.

Clr. Paul Rapi said that they should support the venture as it was good for the town, and when the organisers had everything in place, the council should make a financial contribution.

"This sounds like an excellent project and a wonderful thing to be happening in Tenby," added Clr. Will Rossiter.
