Cwmllynfell 12 pts. Whitland 1st XV 3
What can you say? All that was so good the previous week was so poor last weekend as Whitland slumped to defeat against Cwmllynfell in Swalec National League Division One West.
Every time the Borderers got into the home side's 22, either the set-piece went wrong, there was poor passing, poor hands or just the wrong option taken, and they never looked like crossing the line.
In the first half, the only points came for Whitland after 35 minutes with an Emyr Williams penalty, leaving the half-time score three-nil to the visitors.
The longer the second half went on, the more the home side realised the game was there for the taking and upped the tempo and, after Whitland had been reduced to 14 men when prop Alan Proctor was yellow-carded for coming in at the side, number eight and man-of-the-match Jim Morgan crossed for a try 20 minutes in, which outside-half Stephen Rees converted.
Whitland did try hard, but when Emyr Williams hit the post with a penalty, you knew it wasn't going to be their afternoon and right on full-time centre Paul Davies crossed for his side's second try to leave the full-time score 12 points to three to Cwmllynfell.
Tomorrow (Saturday) sees Whitland on the road again playing at Bonymaen.
Team: Carwyn Jones, Christiaan Roets, Lee Glanville (capt.), Gary Evans, Aled Jones, Emyr Williams, Gary Davies, Rhun Morgan (Gareth Williams), Mark Jones, Alan Proctor (Gareth Lloyd), John Bowen, Carwyn Davies, Celt Thomas, Jack Mason (Gareth Downes), Ryan Michael.
Subs not used - Gareth Morris and Tom Dinan.
Whitland 2nd XV 23 pts. Felinfoel 2nd XV nil
Whitland scored four tries in this game to register their second win in the Carmarthen Tyre Services League, and to keep a clean sheet in the process was even more pleasing for the boys and their hard work.
Fullback Darren Rees got the first points with a penalty, before Whitland scored three unconverted tries by winger Emyr Rees and centres Dan Mason and Wayne James.
In the second half, playing into the elements, Whitland crossed for a further try by winger Nick Price.
Tomorrow (Saturday) sees the Seconds home again when Waunarlwydd will be the visitors.
Whitland Youth
Whitland Youth's game against Pembroke Youth was called off late on Friday evening when Pembroke failed to raise a side.
