Paramedics in Poole are set to organise their own New Years Day Swim in support of the work of the Dai Rees Foundation.
On behalf of Saundersfoot New Year’s Day Swim and Tees ‘R’ Us, swim mascot Charlie Shivers recently donated 100 t-shirts which will be sold off and all proceeds from sales of the ‘DRF’ t-shirt will support the work of the Dai Rees Foundation, a registered charity set-up to continue the legacy of Dai, who sadly died following a diving accident in the Maldives in March 2014.
Although Dai was from Saundersfoot, he later became a paramedic with the South Western Ambulance Trust. He set-up the Maldivian Sihhath Initiative after finding out the islanders barely had any first aid provision. The initiative provided training and equipment to populated areas.
In 2017, a team of paramedics from the DRF will be partnering with Community Action Nepal to deliver emergency medical training and equipment to remote and rural locations in Nepal.
Inspired by the work of the Foundation and the Saundersfoot NYDS - Dai’s paramedic colleagues in Poole, Dorset are set to make a splash with their own swim to see in 2017, after receiving their DRF t-shirts.
“At the moment, it looks as though we’ll have about 10-12 people there for our New Year’s Day swim, but fingers crossed we can increase the numbers before then!” said Adam Khan
The t shirts are now available from Elements of Pembrokeshire, on The Strand in Saundersfoot.
