It was with deep regret that South Pembrokeshire Hunt Branch of the Pony Club heard the sad news that Mrs. Louise Meyrick had passed away. Louise was herself a highly respected member of the branch, as are her daughters Isabell and Abigail.
Louise and her family were actively involved in the branch during the 1970s and 1980s. During this time, she represented South Pembs. on numerous occasions at area competitions, enjoying great success in show jumping, eventing and mounted games.
Despite this, Louise enjoyed the social and fun side of pony club just as much, and made some very close friends through pony club, with whom she remained friends throughout her life.
Like many pony club members, Louise went on to become a pony club Mum when Izzy and Aby joined pony club. Since then, Louise has been actively involved in the branch, supporting the girls in all disciplines from eventing, show jumping and dressage to tetrathlon and triathlons.
Louise was always there to help and support her daughters in everything they did in pony club, from regularly attending rallies and camp, through to area and national competitions.
As a result of her dedication, both her girls have enjoyed success in pony club competitions, and have recently followed in their mother's footsteps, winning working hunter championships at a number of national events, including the Royal Welsh and the BSPS Winter Championships.
In 2004, Louise became a member of the branch committee, a role which she took seriously, showing great energy, enthusiasm and commitment in everything she did. Louise was an organiser and she was often responsible for organising rallies, training and camp.
Riders and their parents will always remember the games rallies Louise would organise at Tarr, which the children found great fun, especially when she would join in and show them how it was done!
Pony club was a very important part of Louise's life as she enjoyed the social side as well as the riding! She was often the last to leave a social event and keen that everyone had a good time.
The autumn pleasure rides at Tarr were a highlight of the year, with the children enjoying the excitement of the cross country course, all dressed in the brightest colours possible, before a fun evening and sleep-over in an assortment of tents, caravans and horse lorries! The endless bacon butties she served the morning after were legendry!
Over the years, Louise has shown great commitment to pony club; she always spoke her mind and was the first to help out when something needed doing.
On occasions she would stand in at the last minute when an instructor failed to turn up, making sure that the children always had a good time. Louise was an excellent riding instructor and the parents who were lucky enough to watch her always wanted her to teach more.
In short, South Pembs. Pony Club has lost a devoted supporter in Louise, who will be deeply missed by her many close friends in South Pembs. The branch would like to pass on their respects, and support to Mark, Isabell and Abigail and their family at this very difficult time.
