The Labour party has turned its back on Wales and is actively working against the people of Wales, Plaid Cymru leader Rhun ap Iorwerth is expected to say during a press conference today.
Addressing the media ahead of the new Senedd term, the Plaid Cymru leader will expose the further evidence that Labour’s promise of having two governments of the same party working together would be good for Wales is nothing more than cynical spin rather than substance.
Speaking ahead of the press conference, Mr ap Iorwerth called out Labour for putting party before country.
Plaid Cymru leader Rhun ap Iorwerth MS said: “Almost a year since Labour came into power in Westminster, their so-called ‘partnership in power’ is actively hurting Wales.
“Wales now faces a £70m shortfall to fund the rise in employers’ National Insurance Contributions affecting public sector organisations; Labour voted against calls to scrap the two-child benefit cap; they’ve cancelled the only in-person consultation in Wales on the cruel cuts to disability benefits; and Wales yet again misses out on further rail funding as a result of the UK Labour Government designating the multi-billion pound rail project between Oxford and Cambridge as an England and Wales scheme.
“Every time we call out these damaging policies, Labour in Wales put party before country – with the Welsh First Minister even mocking Plaid Cymru’s calls to lift the two-child benefit cap responsible for placing thousands of children in Wales in poverty.
“The people of Wales deserve a government that will always stand up for them. That is why Wales needs a Plaid Cymru Government in 2026 that will always fight for what is fair for our communities.”
