Pembrokeshire goes to the polls today (Thursday) for the county, town and community council elections. Thirteen of the county seats will not be contested as there is only one candidate for each, but some interesting fights are in the offing.

Not least in Pembroke Dock, where there will be a number of battles, including two for seats vacated by retiring councillors, Alison Lee in the Central ward and Sue Perkins in the Llanion ward.

The fight for the the Central ward looks like being a particularly fierce contest, with no fewer than six candidates standing, while in the Llanion ward William Rees is hoping to make a return to local government as he takes on former Pembroke Dock Mayor, Peter Kraus, and Welsh Labour candidate Joshua Beynon.

Two other former Mayors, Melanie Phillips and Aaron Carey, of Pembroke, are hoping to oust Daphne Bush from the Pembroke St. Mary South seat, but will also come up against Jacob David Taylor, while there will be a new face for St. Mary North, with incumbent councillor Arwyn Willliams having decided to stand down.

There will be a three-way fight for his seat between Dai Boswell, representing Welsh Conservatives, David William Edwards - Welsh Labour, and independent John Harvey.

The remaining Pembroke and Pembroke Dock wards (Market, Pennar, Monkton and St. Michael) will see straight head-to-head contests for the seats, with incumbents Brian Hall, Anthony Wilcox, Pearl Llewellyn and Jonathan Nutting taking on Hayley Wood, Allan Brookes, Chris Doyle and Aden Brinn, respectively.

Outside of town, meanwhile, there should be an interesting battle at Hundleton, where John Allen-Mirehouse has decided not to seek re-election after many years at the helm.

Hoping to replace him are four candidates, namely Barry Edward Grange - Independent, Terence Keith Bradney - Welsh Conservative, Margot Magdalene Hanna Mechthild Bateman and Nicky Hancock.
