The Mayor of Pembroke Dock resigned this week after being caught as ‘piggy in the middle’ between opposing camps over the issue of dealing with the alleged bullying of staff at the town council.
Clr. Jane McNaughton left her role as both Mayor and town councillor on Tuesday, due to what she described as ‘constant pressure’ in trying to remain impartial during the controversy surrounding the council which has led to the resignation of the clerk Sarah Scourfield - the second clerk to leave the position in recent years due to alleged bullying.
With the council due to have met last night (Thursday) for an extraordinary meeting, it was expected that Deputy Mayor, Clr. Gordon Goff, would take over the role of Mayor.
At a meeting of the town council earlier this month, Clr. Brian Hall commented that he had read through at least 40 emails that had attributed to the resignation of the town clerk and called the person involved ‘a keyboard warrior’.
