Following the ‘unavoidable’ resignation of Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner from the UK Government, a Plaid Cymru MP has said that the Labour party has ‘lost whatever moral high ground remained to them’.

Plaid Cymru Westminster leader, Liz Saville Roberts MP, said: “Angela Rayner’s resignation was unavoidable given her breach of the ministerial code, and it is the right thing to do.

"After 14 years of chaos under the Tories, Labour entered office promising change with the highest standards of integrity and accountability, yet here we are seeing figures at the top of Government being forced to admit to breaking the ministerial code.

"The Government is now in chaos, with last-minute emergency re-shuffles, despite the Prime Minister re-shuffling his cabinet earlier this week which he described as "phase 2" of his government. If this is what 'phase 2' looks like, I dread to see any further phases of this Labour Government. They have lost whatever moral high ground remained to them.”
