Pembrokeshire County Council wants to hear the public’s views on the draft charter between itself and town and community councils in the county.

The draft charter aims to improve communication and cooperation between the county council and town and community councils.

Similar charters have been agreed between county councils and town and community councils in other areas of the country.

Pembrokeshire has nine town councils and one city council, which serve the area’s larger settlements, along with 67 community councils, which serve the county’s more rural areas.

Town and community councils serve their communities by exercising a range of powers and duties, with the aim of improving the quality of life in their area.

They can make an additional charge (on top of council tax) for facilities and services and at present raise a total of £1.4m.

All are statutory organisations with each council made up of elected members or, in some cases, co-opted members. Members serve a four year term and have to agree to a code of conduct.

Further information about town and community councils and their activities, including agendas and minutes of meetings, can be found on www.pembstcc.org

You can give your views on the draft charter by completing a short online questionnaire at www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk/haveyoursay.

Or by requesting a hard copy by contacting Nicky Edwards on 01437 775856 ([email protected]).

Once complete, please return to: Pembrokeshire County Council, Marketing, 2D County Hall, Haverfordwest, SA61 1TP.

Please return by Monday, November 2.
