Dan Thomas MS will use his speech at Reform Conference to say his party is ready for government in Wales.

Reform’s Welsh Leader said ahead of his speech that if the Plaid Cymru Welsh Government continues to fail to get support for its financial measures in the Senedd, his party is prepared to govern “in the interests of Wales.”

The party’s Welsh chief has told colleagues he believes the Reform Senedd Group has proven itself as the only credible alternative to Plaid Cymru since the May election by winning votes in the Senedd and defeating the Welsh Government’s Supplementary Budget.

He is expected to tell the conference that in Reform’s first 100 days in opposition in the Senedd, they have won support for three motions, on bovine TB, legal protection for care leavers, and a lobbyist register for Wales, adding: “We have been a strong voice for the left-behind communities that voted for us.”

The Casnewydd Islwyn Senedd Member will also announce that his Reform Senedd Group will put down a motion in the first week of the new term calling for Wales to have greater representation in the UK’s Independent Inquiry into Grooming Gangs.

Thomas will say the case for an inquiry has grown since the Senedd Election, before adding: “we expect all parties to do the right thing and support our call for action.”

Speaking ahead of his speech, Dan Thomas MS, Leader of Reform UK Wales, said:

“We’ve shown since the election that we can build consensus in the Senedd, and that we can give a voice to the voiceless.

“Meanwhile, Plaid Cymru have been unable to secure support for their financial measures in Cardiff Bay. If that trend continues, it’s hard to see how this Welsh Government will last the duration of the term.

“As the largest and most effective opposition in the Senedd’s history, we are prepared to take the reins and govern in the interests of Wales.”
