Unfortunately, the onset of summer, as welcoming as it may be for the majority of people, does inevitably result in seasonal increases in some of the types of crimes experienced in the county of Pembrokeshire. Last year, 14 criminal offences took place on school premises during the summer break, which included a number of burglaries as well as criminal damage offences. The police in Pembrokeshire seek the public's support in ensuring that such offences are kept to an absolute minimum and urge anyone who witnesses any suspicious activity on school premises to report it to their local police immediately. Additionally, the police are urging parents to advise their children not to enter onto school grounds during the holiday period without authority and that these premises will be patrolled by police officers. With the increase of water borne activities, marine equipment is increasingly vulnerable to theft. Last summer, 17 offences were recorded, which included the theft of marine equipment and outboard motors. The police are urging owners therefore to take reasonable steps to protect valuable items by locking or storing them away as well as marking the equipment. At this time of year, car parks are often an attraction to car thieves. Drivers are therefore advised to take a few simple measures to assist in minimising the opportunities presented to these people by properly securing their vehicles and locking valuable goods away. Inspector Clark, of Tenby Police Station, commented: "Pembrokeshire is a beautiful county, but like the rest of the country we suffer from an increase in crime during the summer months. Opportunist thieves will steal what they can where they can. "Valuable marine equipment should be kept out of sight when not in use or locked and security marked. Drivers should not leave valuables in cars, as this is often an irresistible challenge to an opportunist thief. "Enjoy the summer, take sensible precautions and avoid becoming a victim of crime."
