It has been brought to the attention of Dyfed-Powys Police that a new e-mail scam is circulating, whereby potential victims are receiving e-mails from bogus foreign lottery operators.

The e-mails describe large winnings which are said to be awaiting collection, providing that an advance 'administration' or 'release' fee is paid.

"Members of the public are reminded to exercise caution when receiving e-mails from an unknown source, however plausible they may sound," warned a police spokesman.

"Funds should never be sent to unknown individuals to release winnings, particularly where no lottery ticket of any kind has been purchased.

"Genuine lottery operators do not require funds before releasing winnings," the spokesman added.
