Dyfed Powys Police are aware that 'phone calls are being made to businesses in the area by people who claim to be acting on behalf of the police and/or all the emergency services.
The businesses are invited to buy advertising space in a magazine which, it is claimed, is being produced on behalf of the police/emergency services.
One reason given for producing the magazine is that it is a joint venture between the police and fire service recommending local, trustworthy tradesmen rather than so-called cowboys or rogue traders.
When the business proprietors have asked for a call-back number or declined the offer, the callers have sometimes become unpleasant. A sum of £60 has also sometimes been mentioned.
Dyfed Powys Police can categorically state that they are not producing any such literature in conjunction with any company.
"If you are contacted by any one asking for your money for any such purpose, remember that your money is highly unlikely to end up supporting any of the emergency services," warned a police spokesman.
You can contact your local police station with any details which you have or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
