CONGRATULATIONS to Sarah White, a PC with Surrey Police, who recently competed in the World Police and Fire Games held in Adelaide, Australia, and came back with a host of swimming medals. Twenty-eight-year-old Sarah, the daughter of Tony and Sally White, of Saundersfoot, is a former pupil of Saundersfoot and Greenhill Schools. She has always been a keen swimmer and has previously swum for the Welsh Schools at various competitions. The swimming events at the games in Adelaide were held over three days, with Sarah competing in the tough 18 to 29 age group. She swam individual events for Surrey Police, joining up with her UK colleagues for the relay races to compete under the Great Britain Police banner. On the first day of the races, which attracted more than 8,000 entrants from forces around the world, Sarah achieved a third in the 50m butterfly and a fourth in the 200m individual medley, before winning a first in the 200m freestyle relay, beating the second placed Russians convincingly by 10 metres. The second day brought Sarah a second in the 100m freestyle and a second in the 200m medley relay, just missing out on the first place by under a second. The final day of competition saw her take a fourth in the 100m butterfly and a second in the 50m freestyle. "It was a wonderful experience for the thousands of police and fire officers competing," said Sarah, who will be returning to her home village of Saundersfoot in September for her wedding.
