Dyfed Powys Police and Police Authority are launching a recruitment drive for specialist advisors representing diverse groups to sit on an Independent Advisory Group (IAG) which will offer advice and guidance to the two organisations.
Two information events are now planned for those who may be interested in joining to go along and find out more.
These will be held on Tuesday, February 15, at the Metropole Hotel in Llandrindod Wells from 6-8 pm, and on Wednesday, February 16, at Parc Y Scarlets in Llanelli, also from 6-8 pm.
"These events will be an opportunity for representatives from diverse and minority groups to come along and find out exactly what the Independent Advisory Group is all about," said Chief Inspector Chris Curtis. "The IAG, which is voluntary, offers an exciting opportunity for people to help the authority by offering advice on our policing priorities, and helping the force with critical incidents so as to ensure that we can be confident in being sensitive to the needs and concerns of the community as a whole.
"The people we are looking for will offer individual and independent advice, rather than the views of groups or bodies. We are looking for membership of the IAG to be broadly representative of the diverse communities we serve, in terms of age, disability, gender and gender identity, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation and the Welsh language.
"We're looking for people who are open-minded, willing to engage and exchange frank views and those who want to help us deliver a better, fair and equal service to all residents in Dyfed Powys."
The IAG will meet quarterly and will work to an agreed work plan, with priorities being set by both Dyfed Powys Police and Dyfed Powys Police Authority. During the two events, people will have the chance to speak informally to representatives from the force and police authority about how the IAG will work. Welsh language and sign language translation will also be available, and a buffet will be provided.
