Police are investigating the grisly discovery of what appears to be human bones in the St. Clears area. The first bone was unearthed last week as a result of work being undertaken to lay the LNG pipeline near the boat club at Gwaefi Farm.

'Further human remains' were then discovered during initial examination of the scene.

The coroner has been made aware and Dyfed Powys Police are working with a home office pathologist and other experts to evaluate the significance of the find.

The remains, including a human femur, are being examined by forensic experts who will assist police in identifying the age and sex of the bones and attempt to establish the cause of death and an estimate of the period of time since death.

"Initial enquiries reveal artefacts at the scene which date from the 1950s," said a police spokesman.

"However, we have no other information at present to indicate how long the remains have been in situ. "If any member of the public has knowledge of this location, in particular of its previous use, or they have information in respect of any person who may have gone missing from this area, then we would like to hear from them.

"It appears that these fields at Gwaefi Farm were used to deposit rubbish some time after 1952," added the spokesman. "If anyone has information about this activity or is aware of anyone who may have gone missing from the St. Clears area since this period, then we would like to hear from them." House-to-house enquiries are also continuing in the area.

An Incident Room has been set up at Carmarthen Police Station and officers can be contacted on 0845 3302000. Members of the public can also contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
