A computer crime investigation has been launched in South Pembrokeshire after an apparent campaign to hamper the operation of a credit union.

Police are investigating an allegation of harassment by a third party after information was received from the Landsker Community Credit Union in Picton Terrace, Narberth.

Meanwhile, members of staff at the credit union lost their jobs last month after Welsh Assembly funding ended.

It is not being suggested that they are implicated in the investigation.

The credit union's office is now operating with volunteers until more funding is sourced.

Said chairman Tom Price: "Unfortunately, Landsker Community Credit Union is in the same position as many credit unions in Wales and other community social enterprise schemes in as much as the grant funding for paid staff from the WAG ended on March 31, without another stream of funding being put into place.

"The volunteer board of directors of Landsker Community Credit Union are naturally very sad to lose members of staff. Our information is that new grant funding will not be available at least until September 2010."

The credit union is now in its 10th year of providing a valuable service to its members and will continue providing the same service staffed by volunteer members, just as it did in the first four years of business.

The open office hours will be reduced until such time that the credit union is once again in a position to increase business hours with remunerated staff.

Concluded Mr. Price: "The credit union would appreciate any members with office administration experience and are able to give some volunteer hours to contact the office in order to help provide extra opening times to the members."
