A police officer is recovering after he was injured whilst attending an incident in Pembroke Dock.

The alarm was raised at approximately 7.30 pm on Thursday, July 30, when police received reports of youths on the train tracks and concern for their safety.

Officers attended the scene, and whilst making enquiries, an officer was injured whilst trying to manoeuvre over a fence.

The officer was conveyed to Morriston Hospital by the force helicopter.

British Transport Police is investigating the concerns in relation to youths on the tracks, although no youths were located at the scene.

Police confirmed this week that the officer had left hospital and was ‘recovering well.’

However, the incident has led to a warning from Inspector Mark McSweeney.

He said: “We have received reports of children playing on or near railway tracks in recent weeks. Police officers are carrying out extra patrols over the summer months to deter this behaviour, working closely with the British Transport Police.

“However, police cannot be there all the time. I urge parents and carers to drive home the message to their children that railways are not playgrounds. They could be seriously injured or even killed if they continue to play on railway lines. We do not want to be reporting any injuries or tragedies as a result of this irresponsible behaviour.”
