Second teenager in drinks scare

Police have renewed their concerns about underage drinking after a teenager collapsed over the Easter weekend after consuming excess alcohol.

Shortly before 10 pm on Bank Holiday Monday, police officers, ambulance personnel and coastguards attended at Black Rock, near Tenby's South Beach, where a 15-year-old local boy was discovered unconscious.

The teenager was attended to by paramedics, before he was placed on a coastguard stretcher and conveyed in the coastguard rescue vehicle to a waiting ambulance, from where he was taken to Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest.

"Had he not been found when he was, the consequences could have been dire," a police spokesman told the Observer this week.

This comes just two weeks after another local youth was found in similar circumstances on the South Beach after he was also involved in what police described as an 'alcohol abuse related incident'.

"If this behaviour continues, we will be dealing with a sudden death before long," the police spokesman warned.

"The dangers of consuming excess alcohol underage are extreme, and parents and guardians are asked to be mindful of what their charges are up to," he added.

The teenager concerned in Monday's incident has been released from hospital.
