The Police Training Group IPLDP 04/07, stationed at Carmarthen HQ, recently received a presentation from the charity BRAKE, highlighting the impact that serious road traffic collisions have on the friends and family of the deceased or badly injured. It was made plain to officers through the experiences of a volunteer for BRAKE, who had suffered loss, just how important it was to have support after such a traumatic incident, and what a significant effect an organisation can have on people's lives in the face tragedy. In light of this, the officers decided to embark on a charity event to raise money to support their cause. They are planning a 118-mile ride through the Dyfed-Powys force area, covering all four counties in a 10-hour time span. The ride will be spread between all 14 members of the group, with each person covering a section of the distance. It was felt that it was relevant to stage the event on the roads that these terrible incidents take place. The route will take them from Aberystwyth through to Llangurig, then Builth Wells, Llandovery, Carmarthen and finish just over the Pembrokshire border in Llanteg. The officers plan to set off from Aberystwyth at 8 am on Wednesday, April 16, from the Park Lodge Hotel and be in Llanteg by 6 pm.
